Series: my Holy Grail (HG) products!: Eyes!

I've decided to start a small series on my holy grail (also called HG) products. HG products are essentially products that are used constantly and can't be replaced. Since really getting into make-up a couple of years ago I have a number of them. That being said I constantly try new items as well! I thought I'd list and review my HGs. I am separating them into sections, the first one is for the eyes!

When I first started using make-up I think the first products I tried were mascara and eyeshadow along with foundation/concealer. Now I use primer and eyeliner!

NARS Smudge Proof eyeshadow base

Eyeshadow primer is essential to keeping my eyeshadow looking good and lasting all day. I have very oily eyelids so this helps a lot.

YSL Faux Cils mascara
It took me awhile to find a mascara I loved. I used to stick to so called drugstore mascaras, i.e. Revlon, Maybelline, Covergirl etc but I never liked the lack of length and definition I got. I have blonde eyelashes (I am naturally blonde) so having darker lashes with length and volume is important to me. This is the second high end mascara I tried and it is working for me well, it is very black and gives some length and volume. The only thing is that it doesn't hold a curl the best.

L'Oreal Lineur Intense Carbon Black Felt Tip Eyeliner
Unfortunately this product isn't sold in Australia but I got three when I was overseas in Hawaii. I'm on my second tube. This is a very black eyeliner and is so easy to use. I used to steer clear of eyeliner, I was so terrible at applying it! But I practiced it a lot and I can do with ease now.

    Maybelline Master Precise Liquid Eyeliner
This is kind of my back-up liner for when I run out of my L'Oreal. I got this eyeliner when it first came out. It is very black and easy to use, the tip is thinner than the L'Oreal and I like it for more neutral looks. I will probably switch to this permanently but for now I like switching between the two.

Max Factor Liquid Eye Effect Pencil
I use this to tight line my upper lashline. I love using this technique to make my lashes look thicker and darker.

Bare Minerals Ready Eyeshadow duo in The Cliffhanger
I didn't have a HG eyeshadow product until a couple of weeks ago. I like using neutral eyeshadows day to day but I hadn't found anything perfect. I blogged about this previously in a haul and I love it. I use the taupe shadow as a lid colour, I use Chanel's Safari in the crease and the purple shadow in the outer v and it looks lovely. When this runs out I'll definitely repurchase this.

    MAC Eyeshadow in Shroom
I use this shadow as my highlight colour. I got it while in Hawaii and it is a lovely colour that lights up the eye area. I can't even remember what I used before this.

That is all for my eye HGs! What are yours?, I love finding and trying new products :) Of course I use other products on my eyes, occasionally I'll use another eyeliner, I use a range of other eyeshadow shades as well. I constantly reach for these products however and I can see myself repurchasing them over and over!

    1. Great blog :) I'm a huge fan of neutrals so I'm going to give Bare Minerals Ready Eyeshadow Duo in Cliffhanger a go :D I've also got my eye on Shroom, but it's going to have to wait until I run out of my current highlighters run out.

      1. The Bare Minerals duo is lovely. I got it from Kit Cosmetics, I don't think they are available in any other stores. I was really surprised at the price, only $27.95, reasonable I thought for a high end brand when Revlon eyeshadows retail for around $21 I think. I also have my eye on another duo called The Enlightenment.

As a fellow lover on neutrals have you tried the Naked palettes by Urban Decay? They are also great.

What eye products do you use regularly?

      2. Hey, you're very quick! I'll scout out the shadow duo for sure :)

I have tried the Naked2 palette, it's very worth the money and hype. I'm still new to makeup and I've got Asian eyes (double-lid) so the tutorials on youtube are not as helpful. I'm still working out how to do eye makeup well, and practicing with the cheap stuff before I dig into the Naked2 palette.

On a regular basis, I use Ecotools eye brushes, Toofaced Shadow Insurance, Mirenesse Tightliner, and Revlon CustomEyes in Naturally Glamorous. They're all very good products, my only complaint is that the tightliner has a thick point.

Eagerly awaiting your next HG post :)

      3. One of my favourite YouTube blogs is Jen from From Head to Toe, she is Asian and has done a few tutorials using both Naked palettes: http://www.frmheadtotoe.com/search?q=urban+decay+naked. One great one is here: http://www.frmheadtotoe.com/2012/01/everyday-monolid-makeup-tutorial.html

You might get some tips from there. There are definitely some less expensive eyeshadows that are as good as the high-end ones, Revlon's new colorstay quads are supposed to be good, I also like one of the Covergirl neutral trios.

I have looked into try EcoTools brushes but I haven't yet and I have used Shadow Insurance before but my oily lids prefer the NARS. Different products work for different people :)
